Book Tasting

Book Tasting
Posted on 10/01/2019
Through a collaboration with our librarian and sixth grade language arts teachers, Tunstall Middle School students have participated in a book tasting in the library over the last few weeks. Students travel to different tables representing different genres of books.

They “sample” the books, looking for stories and topics that might interest them. While they travel to these stations, they complete a “placemat” that represents all the books they may want to check out throughout the year. They also complete a “menu” ranking at least five books and noting what they are about and how their covers and summaries affect them as readers. Teachers travel around the stations helping, but also taking the role as a waitress delivering snacks to the “diners.”

Each student is allowed to “take out” one book from the tables on the day of their visit. After returning to class, students reflect on their experience on their “napkins,” answering several questions and discussing.
