TMS Running Club

TMS Running Club

Tunstall Middle school is excited to start its very first Running Club! Running Club will meet every Thursday and will continue until winter. Participating students will go to Mrs. Hines’ room (room 608) during 3rd load dismissal, and will be allowed to change clothes after check-in. We will head to the TMS track around 3:30 to begin. Students will need to be picked up promptly by 4:15.

It is crucial that students are dressed appropriately for our running club. Students must wear proper running shoes. This will help to prevent injuries now AND years down the road. Athletic clothes are strongly recommended. Students will not be able to participate if they are not dressed for the weather conditions. These students will be sent to the office for pick-up.

The TMS Running Club is an extracurricular activity and misbehavior will not be tolerated. This is for those students who want to improve their fitness. It is not considered playtime. If we have to speak to your child about misbehavior more than two times, he/she will be removed from the club. If your child is picked up after 4:20 PM more than two times, he/she will be removed from the club. This is a commitment, and we want our runners to take it seriously.

Do you have to be an athlete to participate?

Absolutely not! We are following the
“Couch to shoe5k” program to slowly build up stamina so that we will eventually be able to run a continuous 5k jog. We are simply looking to create an interest in running. We want our club members to understand the importance of physical activity, and to see that it can be fun, too! By the time your runner heads to the high school, he/she will be prepared for the Cross County Team!

Will bottled water be provided?

Yes! Your runner will be provided with a bottle of water at each practice. He/she may bring one from home, too, if they’d like.

Is there a fee?

Yes, each member must pay $25 to join our running club. These fees will be used to purchase bottled water and a club t-shirt. Checks should be made payable to Tunstall Middle School **Shirts are being ordered on September 21st. You must join before that date to guarantee you get a shirt**

Will we participate in races?

Since we are a club and not a sport, we are not able to host races. However, we will participate (optional) in local races through the city of Danville and surrounding areas. Participation in these races will be the responsibility of the participant. We cannot provide transportation nor will the club pay for registration fees.

Who will supervise TMS Running Club practices?

Paige Hines (6th grade teacher), Heather Johnston (6th grade teacher), and Meredith Walker (7th grade teacher) will work together to supervise practices.
