Mrs. Luci Satterfield, RN, BSN

Luci Satterfield, BSN, RN is one of the Family Life Educators in Pittsylvania County Schools. She received her RN diploma from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She began her career as a Family Life Educator in 2008. During her nursing career, she worked with adults, teens and children in various medical settings. She also taught in the nursing program at Danville Community College as an adjunct faculty member.  Previous career opportunities prepared her for the role of a Family Life Educator, placing an emphasis on overall health for all ages.  Parents can be assured as a mother of four, having taught her own children and now grandchildren in Family Life, she views each lesson from a parents' and now a grandparents' perspective.

Outside of school, Mrs. Satterfield enjoys reading, cooking for her family, traveling, family beach trips, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Recognizing it is never too late to learn, she is having fun learning to refinish furniture, and to sew!

Jodi Kapornyai, RN

Jodi Kapornyai, RN, received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing in 2004 from Patrick Henry Community College.

Mrs. Kapornyai began her career in 1997 at Danville Regional Medical as a Certified Nurse Assistant working on a medical surgical floor in the hospital. On this floor is where she realized how rewarding it was to serve and care for others. She became interested in being able to provide a higher level of care for her patients. In 2000 she graduated from Danville Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse and in 2004 furthered her career in nursing graduating from Patrick Henry Community College as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing experience includes Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department and in 2008 achieved her goal to work in Women’s and Children’s as a Newborn Nursery Nurse.

Mrs. Kapornyai currently enjoys working PRN in the Newborn Nursery/Obstetrics department at Sovah Health Danville. Welcoming a newborn is an exciting time, but as most mothers would agree can also come with its own set of challenges. She enjoys being able to provide specialized care and support to new families in our community.

This year marks her third year teaching FLE and believes lessons taught provide invaluable information to our students. She is hopeful that the love she has for children and the FLE curriculum is present every day with each student.
